Having naturally cutly hair can sometimes be such a faff, especially when you don't know how to style it properly. I have FINALLY after 22 years of struggling with it, learnt how what works for me, so here are some tips for all of you curly hair girls...
1. Condition,
condition, condition. For me, this is the biggest thing, having curly hair,
it tends to be suuuuper dry which just makes it even frizzier. So make
sure that when you wash your hair, you are conditioning it properly, all the
way to the ends. I like to use a deep conditioning hair mask too. My
favourite is this Korres Shea Butter one. This just means that your hair is
left silky soft and not a big boff.
2. Don't towel
dry. Evvvveryone knows that to avoid breakages and frizzy hair, you should
avoid towel drying your hair as much as possible. Instead, use a cotton t-shirt
to wring out your hair instead. This is literally a game changer!
3. Load on the
anti-frizz product. I used to think that putting product in my hair would
weigh it down and make it limp, BUT it actually does the opposite, I am left
with voluptuous hair (lol). My favourite is the John Freida Frizz Ease range,
because it literally does what it says on the tin. It calms any frizz without
making it look sticky or greasy, and without weighing it down too. I also love
to use a bit of morocco oil on my ends, because they tend to get prettttyyy dry
which is not a good look.
4. Use a diffuser.
Diffusers do look pretty scary, but they are amazing! If I dry my hair
normally, without a diffuser, I end up looking like I have a lion's mane, with
no structure to my curls and just like a ball of frizz. But when I use a
diffuser, my curls are more defined and smooth! I like to flip my head upside
down and diffuse in an upwards motion. Make sure you have your hairdryer on the
highest heat but on the slowest speed, to avoid frizz!
5. Sleep with it
tied up. The worst thing about having curly hair is when you sleep on it
and you wake up and your curls have fallen out and it is just so crazy and just
a total boff. The way that I overcome this is by taking a scrunchie or a thin
small bobble and tie your hair up on the top of your head, literally like a
pineapple. And when you wake up in the morning your hair will be frizz free
and ready for the next day.
6. Your curling
wand is your best friend. I don't know about you, but my curls tend to
start looking limp after a day or two and the ends fall out slightly so I just
like to take my curling wand and just add a couple of curls back in. This just
tames it all a bit and makes you look a bit more put together. I tend to just
do this towards the lower lengths of my hair so that it still looks natural.
7. Use twirl
bobbles and claws clips. The Invisibobble Hair Band has literally changed my
life. No matter how long I have my hair tied up for, as long as I use this
bobble, there are no kinks whatsoever. AMAZING! Another thing is that it does
not tangle or get caught in my hair either which was always the most annoying
thing! Claw clips are a God send too. I use them to just clip back the front
bits of my hair when they start to get unruly or if I’m doing something and my
hair is just being annoying. My favourites are the ones from Primark. You get
10 in a pack and they're only £1! Because these have quite wide teeth, they don’t
drag out your curls.
